Shawn takes an unsuspecting Gus to a crime scene where they find a man who has apparently overdosed on pills. Shawn, skeptical of the proclaimed suicide, requests to read the witnesses, but the only witness to the event was the man's cat. This is good enough for Shawn, who proceeds to haul the cat around and communicate with him psychically. Gus sees no need for their involvement in the case. Like Lassiter, he believes it was just a suicide. However, he grows wary when a second body is found, another supposed suicide. Shawn is determined to find a link between the deaths and prove that these people were murdered.

Shawn and Gus sit in on a rehearsal for the annual Civil War reenactment, currently being led by Lassiter. A missed cue by Sally Reynolds, playing the nurse, causes Lassiter to stop the rehearsal. Despite Lassiter’s cessation, the man Sally was supposed to have shot remains in character lying on the ground. Unfortunately, this man, Nelson Poe, appears convincingly dead because he has actually been killed. The general consensus is that his death was simply an accident, but Shawn suspects murder. He puts his photographic skills to use and recreates the entire battlefield, pinpointing the only suspect who could have killed Poe.

Gus informs Shawn about the recent death of a doctor, which Shawn naturally sees as an opportunity to solve another case. Unfortunately, Lassiter is quite insistent that he does not want them at his crime scene. Shawn’s consequential plans to take the rest of the day off are ruined when a histrionic man, Robert Dunn, comes to the Psych office for help. He believes that he’s being haunted by a homicidal ghost and is certain that one night in his house will be enough to convince Shawn that something is out to get him.
Lassiter has his hands full enough without having to worry about Shawn. He’s quite busy with relationshipsa "that means trying to patch things with his separated wife and tolerating interactions with partner Juliet.

Juliet goes to Shawn for some help finding a missing teenager, Malone Breyfogle. Because the police aren’t able to take the case until he’s been missing for forty-eight hours, Shawn and Gus volunteer to investigate. An examination of Malone’s room indicates that he’s involved in something shady. Furthermore, they suspect that he can be found at TriCon, a comic book and science-fiction convention. This is good news for Gus, who is a comic book enthusiast himself.
Lassiter and Chief Vick are out of the office and driving their way to a seminar together. The initial awkwardness between them pales in comparison to the surprise disruption they receive in the middle of their trip.

An astronomer, Bryant Vallery, has died of natural causes, but Lassiter thinks there’s something more behind his death. He also reveals to Shawn the self-doubt he’s having and fears he won’t be able to properly solve the case. The next day, Lassiter remembers nothing of the previous night, but Shawn decides to boost his waning confidence by secretly helping him figure out what really happened to Vallery.

Lassiter gives Shawn and Gus a very special case. When they enter the questioning room, they’re surprised to see a naked man sitting before them. The man, Turk, is also kind of surprised to be naked. He woke up in the middle of a field, confused and unclothed. The only thing he seems to remember is seeing aliens. Though Turk might believe he was abducted, Shawn wants to investigate a more logical explanation. When more guys show up in the same predicament as Turk, Shawn manages to find a common link among them. The clue leads him and Gus to a speed-dating service where they, along with Lassiter and Juliet, must go undercover to find the person responsible for robbing these men of their possessions and their dignity.

When they return to the office emptyhanded, they catch a story about a woman, Sandra Panitch, who is charged with killing the Channel 8 weatherman. However, Shawn remembers seeing Sandra at the courthouse and is convinced that she is not guilty. A brief encounter with her disheveled lawyer, Adam Hornstock, is enough to inspire Shawn to join the case. He and Gus jump on board as legal consultants. Although they have very little experience in law, help arrives covertly from some unexpected people. Shawn and Gus are determined to prove Sandra’s innocence, even if the evidence supports the indictment.

However, he must first use a well-crafted lie to get Gus out of his important retreat. Though Gus is initially incurious about the case, things get more interesting with the evidence of attempted murder.

A friend of Henry’s needs Shawn and Gus’ help. His son, Brandon, has been in some trouble lately, and now he is missing. Bill doesn’t want to involve the police, and Henry accidentally suggests Shawn’s help. After some investigation, Shawn and Gus discover that the likely cause of Brandon’s troubles is his involvement in poker. Luckily, Gus is quite the online poker player. He and Shawn devise a plan to lure Brandon into a meeting and find out exactly what kind of trouble he’s in.
While Shawn and Gus investigate the goings-on with Brandon, Juliet explores Lassiter’s personal life. She wants to plan a surprise birthday party for him, but no one seems to know anything about his interests. She is advised to cease the party-planning efforts, but her determination cannot be curbed.

Twenty years ago, Shawn and Gus witnessed a woman end her life via a leap from the window of the Wispy Sunny Pines mental institution. The ghost of Scary Sherry continued to haunt the abandoned facility. Now, twenty years later, another girl has met the same untimely demise, falling from the exact same window. The other sorority sisters are convinced that her ghost is haunting their sorority house, so Juliet calls upon the help of Shawn and Gus. She will need Shawn’s psychic abilities to read the house and to figure out how to stop the hauntings.
Lassiter, meanwhile, has been temporarily reassigned. He must take a rookie detective, Goochberg, under his wing. Despite his initial tolerance, her adamant and amateur ways will no doubt try his patience.
